the drawing is stamped esk which indicates " examined south kensington " the south kensington system was a syllabus for teaching art across the united kingdom and at the time what was known as the empire. by the 1880's the courses were administered and examined by the south kensington schools which was on the site that is now the v&a museum. after 1896 the south kensington schools became the royal college of art.
