HMS Arethusa was a 50 gun sailing frigate that served in the crimean war 1853 -1856, was converted to a steam- powered frigate 1861, and was de commissioned as a war ship in 1874. arethusa then spent the next 59 years as a training ship for the Shaftesbury homes charity until rot made repairs unviable and was scrapped by castle's shipbreaker in 1933/1934. She was sold to the company in August 1933 and her demolition took place at their yard in Charlton, London, the following year.
