svend bayer was born in uganda in 1946 to danish parents. at the age of 16 he came to the uk . he studied at exeter university between 1965 and 1968. it was whist at exeter he discovered a passion for pottery. in 1969 he took an appreticeship at michael cardews wenford bridge pottery in cornwall. michal cardew described him as easily his best pupil and a force of nature who is supremly talented. in 1972 he worked at brannam pottery for a year before travelling to the far east, usa, and asia, returning to set up his own workshop with woodfired kiln at sheepwash, beaworthy, devon in 1975. his work is held in international collections.
