charles david cobb ( 1921 - 2014 ) born in bromley Kent, was a british painter and draughtsman of marine scenes. he served as president of the royal Society of Marine Artists from 1978 - 1983
a commissioned officer in the Royal Navy, Cobb served as 1st Lieutenant on the north atlantic convoys during the early 1940's. Between 1943 and 1945, he commanded fast motor torpedo boats, working in the North Sea.
in 1946 David Cobb moved to newlyn, cornwall where he studied under the tutelage of painter borlase smart, taking up painting professionally. in the 1950,s he moved with his artist wife jean main to the new forest, Hampshire.
