Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border is an anthology of traditional Scottish border Ballards, songs, and a few modern imitations, collected and edited by Sir Walter Scott. First published in two volumes in 1802 and expanded in subsequent editions, the work aimed to preserve the oral traditions and cultural heritage of the Anglo-Scottish border region.
the book is a prize presentation copy awarded from the London city school for excellence in arithmetic. the book is bound in burgundy calf leather with an embossed gilt school crest on the front board. there are five raised bands across spine with gilt titles and decoration, some scuffing , the book has marbled edges and marbled end papers. there is a hand written inscription on the fly leaf. there is some foxing to the title page and early pages. the book is in really super condition, probably unread having just had a life looking good on the book shelf.
