margaret leach born 1918, no relation to bernard leach, studied ceramics at Liverpool School of art between 1936 and 1939, each summer break she would spend two months working at the bernard leach pottery, St Ives, Cornwall. She returned as a member of the Pottery team in 1941, and spent three years learning all aspects of pottery production. in 1946 she took over the disused barn pottery at brockweir, Gloucestershire. She worked mainly in slip decorated red earthenware, regarding it as her natural medium, and employed a range of colours from black, dark brown through to reds and bright yellows. she impressed her pottery here with a v over w not disimilar to that of a famous car manufacturer today. the initials standing for wye valley the area in which the pottery was located. in 1951 she joined an ex colleague, lewis groves at the taena pottery. she stopped potting after she married in 1955.
even though margaret leach worked for a relatively short time. her work was of very high quality and she developed a very strong reputation. her work is held in the collection of the victoria and albert museum , london.
