the book of the bayeux tapestry is a scaled pocket reproduction of the actual original medieval masterpiece it is the bilingual complete sequence edition that consists of 58 colour views that explicitly correspond to the total number of numbered, chronological scenes (or "tableaux") that make up the entire physical length of the Bayeux Tapestry. The colour plates fold out 9.65 metres in a continuous, accordion-style (concertina) strip designed to mimic walking alongside the real artifact.
the publishing company c.a.p was established in 1932. The specific cover styling and typography of the book indicate a print date from the late 1940's to the mid- 1950's. Following the liberation of Normandy in 1944, international tourism to Bayeux surged. C.A.P. redesigned this booklet to feature the parallel French and English descriptions below the plates to specifically cater to British and American visitors.
