" the Squashed bottle " by reg moon.
a rare " the squashed bottle " a collapsed squires gin bottle sculpture / ashtray by reg moon.
reg moon an accomplished potter enjoyed gin. one day he put an empty gin bottle in his kiln to see how it would react. the result was a pleasing collapsed dali/Henry Moore bottle form that could be considered art or ashtray. reg experimented with numerous gin branded bottles, but it was a squires gin bottle that melted to form the most dali/Henry Moore like collapsed bottle form. between 1969 and 1971 the bottles became a great success reg selling them in his torquil gallery in henley in arden for 7s6d. and wholesaling the bottles to interested shops and galleries including heals in london. reg designed a special cardboard box to package the bottle with " the squashed bottle " printed in purple on it.
in 1973 reg received a phone call from the artists gilbert & george who placed a large order for the " the squashed bottle " with instructions for the bottles to be gordons gin bottles. gilbert & george used 200 squashed bottles for their installation "reclining drunk " at the nigel greenwood gallery. each bottle was numbered and carried the gilbert & george logo along with the name of the piece and was available for sale at 11guineas each.
there appears to be a horseshoe firing crack on the inside of the base. it does not affect the structural integrity of the piece or detract from it.
