albert julius olsson (1864-1942) born in islington, london, the son of a swedish father and english mother was a self-taught marine and landscape painter, and a very keen sailor. He played a key part in the life of the St Ives art colony, contributing to many aspects of its creative and social life. he set up the st. ives school of art with Louis Grier, his influence as a teacher spread over a generation or more of young painters from britain and overseas. he lived in st ives for two decades until 1912, when he returned to London and shortly thereafter was elected an associate of the ra. olsson cruised with his yacht most summers.despite moving to London he remained supportive and connected to the colony for the rest of his life.
